This morning was all about continuing to build our teamwork skills and communication skills. It was frustrating for some students because the hula hoop kept going up when the goal was to get the hula hoop to the ground.

Last week, we ended the week with a team building activity. The students were in groups and they had to stack the cups into a tower using a rubber band and four strings attached. The only thing was, they were not able to talk at all to begin. The next round, I assigned one person to talk. Finally, they were all able to talk after discussing what challenges they were facing. We ended our day with saving Fred! Fred was the gummy worm and his boat had flipped over and his life preserver was under his boat. The students were only able to use the 4 paperclips to save him. They worked really well with the person next to them and showed a lot of teamwork.
We read a story called, You Will Be My Friend and we discussed what it means to be a good friend. They worked with a partner to create a Sock Puppet for how to be a good friend. We also did a little Find-a-Friend search.
We had a wonderful first day of school. We reviewed PBIS and learned about some of our classroom expectations. One of the activities we did today was to get to know someone new or ask questions of someone you haven't seen all summer. The activity involved Skittles and they enjoyed getting to eat the Skittles but they first had to remember 1 thing about what their partner shared. We didn't let the rain put a damper on our day because indoor recess was a blast!
As I sit here and type the very first post of the year, I am excited for what this year has to bring. There have been many changes to the classroom and I am interested to see how the kiddos like them. This year, the students' are going to get to choose where they would like to sit each day. I hope you follow us along as we try out this new journey of flexible seating. Here a few pictures of the classroom. I am all ready for the students and families to get here! Looking forward to another wonderful year! |
